Arnold Clark Launches Public Ultra-Rapid EV Charging Network Across the UK
Arnold Clark has officially opened its new ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging network to the public, unveiling more than 50 operational Arnold Clark Charge hubs nationwide.
The rollout forms part of a £30 million investment that will see 500 chargers installed at over 100 Arnold Clark locations by the end of the year. Each hub will offer up to eight ultra-rapid chargers capable of delivering speeds of up to 150kW, enabling drivers to add hundreds of miles of range in minutes.
Affordable, Accessible Charging
At a time when public charging prices are under growing scrutiny, Arnold Clark has made a bold move: charging at just 55p/kWh. This is significantly lower than many rival networks and designed to make EV ownership more accessible, especially for those without home charging options.
Payment flexibility is central to the new service. Drivers can pay via the Arnold Clark app, through contactless Pay & Go, or by using roaming solutions thanks to partnerships with Allstar Business Solutions, Zap-Pay, Octopus Electroverse, and Plugsurfing.
Charging bays are divided between app users and Pay & Go customers, while app users can pre-book chargers for added convenience. Most sites also offer 24/7 access, making them a reliable option for drivers on the move.
A Nationwide Commitment
Russell Borrie, chief executive officer at Arnold Clark, highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to electrification:
“We’re committed to investing in the future of the automotive industry and making electric vehicle charging accessible to everyone. With electric vehicles becoming increasingly popular, it’s essential that our charging infrastructure keeps pace with rising demand. That’s why we’ve made significant investments in our own UK-wide, bookable ultra-rapid charging network, Arnold Clark Charge.”
He added that the new hubs were designed to provide convenient, reliable, and cost-effective charging solutions for the growing number of EV drivers in the UK.
How to Access Arnold Clark Charge
Drivers can get started by downloading the Arnold Clark app, creating an account, and signing up for Arnold Clark Charge. From there, they can access the network, book chargers in advance, and manage payments seamlessly.
Changing the Conversation on Public Charging
Public charging has long been viewed as a pain point for EV adoption, often criticised for its high cost and patchy reliability. Arnold Clark’s customer-first approach — combining fair pricing, roaming access, and bookable chargers, could reshape the expectations for what UK drivers should demand from charging networks.
As more hubs come online before the end of 2025, Arnold Clark’s expansion signals a turning point: EV charging designed with the driver in mind, not as a luxury, but as a necessity.
At ZeroMission, we welcome this move. It pushes the bar higher, challenges others to follow, and ultimately makes the EV transition more achievable for businesses, fleets, and everyday drivers alike.
