From Concept to Current: Ten Years of Innovation

Developed after a decade of rigorous research and design, Seahorse’s new Amphibious Passenger Vehicle (APV) combines cutting-edge electric propulsion with safety compliance under UK Maritime Standards (MSN 1823) and the forthcoming ES-TRIN European regulations.

Capable of carrying 36 passengers and two crew, the vehicle operates for a full day on a single charge, a milestone that reflects how energy efficiency, battery optimisation, and smart system design are now shaping marine and road applications alike.

Production is already scaling at Seahorse’s 25,000 sq. ft. facilities in Slough and Southampton, with up to 24 units expected per year, and that is only the beginning.

Pioneering Spirit, Powered by Purpose

Founded by Graham and Ed Lumley, the father and son duo behind Windsor Duck Tours, Seahorse Amphibious is the only company in the world to design, build, and operate its own fleet of amphibious vehicles.

Their new electric APV follows successful diesel hydraulic models already serving Windsor, Liverpool, and Cape Town, but this launch is a landmark evolution.

“We’re proud to be recognised as pioneers in the design and manufacture of all-electric ducks,” said Graham Lumley, Executive Chairman at Seahorse Amphibious.

“This new generation builds on our experience and will drive significant growth in the tourism market for city experiences,” added Managing Director Ed Lumley.

ZeroMission’s Take: The Future of Multi-Modal Decarbonisation

Seahorse’s breakthrough represents the next wave in multi-modal electrification, blending sectors once considered separate: road, marine, and tourism.

This innovation highlights how data-driven fleet management, predictive maintenance, and intelligent charging coordination, the same capabilities central to ZeroMission’s FleetOps360° éxō platform, can support entirely new mobility categories.

Every success story like this reinforces a single message:

If it moves, it can be electrified, and optimised through data intelligence.

The Bottom Line

From city streets to riversides, Seahorse Amphibious Vehicles is redefining what clean transport looks like. It is not just a “duck” making a splash, it is proof that sustainability can be seamless, profitable, and thrilling.

At ZeroMission, we applaud the Seahorse team and partners like Big Bus Tours for pushing the boundaries of what is possible. As fleets everywhere reimagine mobility, this all-electric amphibious innovation reminds us that the future of transport is not one-dimensional. It is dynamic, connected, and unstoppable.
